8 reasons to cheers!
In the season when days are shorter than nights, autumn covered the streets
of Berlin with a blanket of the fallen leaves, one can choose different ways to
keep themselves cosy and warm and what can be better than a good wine in
a good company! So, some twenty of us at CoFa signed up for a fun evening
of wine tasting at 8greenbottles in the heart of Kreuzberg.
Whether it’s a stroll along Kottbusser Damm or Landwehrkanal, all the ways to our wine tasting spot lead us through one of the most picturesque quarters of Berlin. 8greenbottles is a project founded by two people who’s passion for a good quality natural wine inspired them to create spaces in their home city where other Berliners can enjoy the taste. All the wines offered are natural, organic, vegan and made by hand. For the owners the care put into choosing only the product they know well and can recommend without any doubt means also that they very often visit their suppliers and participate in the harvest process themselves to understand it completely. The founders limit their suppliers origin to only two countries - Germany and Austria, to keep it sustainable and offer goods of the region that quite undeservedly still seems very underrated on the wine market.
Our evening was set to start at 8PM so we gathered in front of the shop to observe how the owners arrange the cosy location for their biggest wine tasting yet. Apparently CoFa wine enthusiasts that we are, outnumbered regular groups by almost a double. This was not an issue, connecting table here and there will only bring people closer. Once everything was ready we sat around a long table and munched on the tasty bread served with olive oil, awaiting introductions and the first bottle.
After the warm welcome, Anne who was our guide throughout the night and the world of natural wines patiently answered long list of questions by our people, who might be fluent in Java or banking affairs, but a ‘natural wine’ was all Greek to us. Soon after, we kicked off the night with the first bottle to put newly accessed knowledge into practice. Anne firmly announced - I like to start a tasting with some sparkles. And so we went - from sparkles, through Rosés, Whites, Yellows and Reds. Each with a story, each with a sediment, each surprising. Some causing smiles and giggles, some reassuring us what is definitely not our kind of wine. Some tasted us so much that more than one bottle was bought and taken home. Few glasses later (worry not, nobody is counting) people moved around the table, caught up with long-time-no-see colleagues or met the new ones, and spent together a cosy November evening to remember, full of laughs, talks and sparkles.
Cheers to us!
